Rebekah Weatherspoon, The Igenious Mind Behind "The Fit Trilogy"

If I tried to tell you the exact number of adroit authors that I have stumbled upon during my love affair with my Kindle app, I would end up lying because I can't really remember. But I DO remember how I cam across Rebekah Weatherspoon. I was hanging out on Google Plus and saw a post by author Madhuri Blaylock, who is a kick ass author in her own right, referencing a series of books called The Fit Trilogies - See review here. The cover art was so smokin' hot I wanted to lick them till the ink came off, so I figured they had to be good! I wasn't disappointed.

The first thought that crossed my mind after finishing the series was God I hope there's going to be a fourth book, and the second thought was I have GOT to interview Rebekah! She is a talented writer with sense of humor to spare, and she's just getting started. So with that being said, let's talk to Rebekah.

PC - Let’s talk about the Fit Trilogy. Where did you get your ideas for your characters?

RW - Grant came to me first, mostly because I have an unhealthy obsession with Chris Hemsworth and I am OUTRAGED that he hasn’t been cast as a lead in a proper romantic comedy yet. The rest of the characters just formed themselves around Grant. LA is a really diverse city so it only made sense to give Grant a diverse set of friends, coworkers and clients.

PC - I thought the Fit Trilogy was the perfect blend of incredible characters, humor, passion, BDSM. Do you always infuse humor into your stories?

RW - I do. I like to think I’m a fairly funny person. I come from a family of very funny people and my partner cracks me up on the daily. I think humor and love go hand in hand. If you can’t laugh with the love of your life then what’s the point.

PC - So you’re obsessed with Chris Hemsworth and you can see him as Grant, who do you see playing your other major characters?

RW - Okay here goes. Violet-Fashion Blogger Allison Teng (she knows *smile*) Naliah – Porn Star Alexa Loren; Daniel – Actor Daniel Henney. I have no one for Armando because he is so specific in my head. Let’s go with Ricky Martin with facial hair. For Keira, I would go with WWE Diva Trinity Fatu ( Her stage name is Naomi Knight).

*I’m going to put my two cents in here, for anything that has to do with a Latin Hotty I’m going with Chayanne! Hands down! Sorry Rebekah IJS *wink*

PC - Will there be more stories added to the FIT Trilogy? *fingers crossed*

RW - Sadly no. I meant for it to be 3 stories only.

* I think I cried  little bit right here*

PC - If you could bring one of your characters to life who would you choose and why?

RW - You’re asking me to choose between my children! Or imaginary lovers. Off the top of my head, Daniel from SATED. Ask me tomorrow and it might be a different answer.

PC - Talk to us about your writing process?

RW - Usually I come with characters and a scenario first. Like what would happen if you screwed your trainer. Then I look for my character inspiration. I can’t write until I know what my characters look like. Armando is still driving me nuts. Then I plot like crazy. Outline my face off and then I write like mad, maybe not eating the way I should. Sometimes I shower. I definitely don’t clean or make contact with friends or family. My boyfriend is very understanding.

PC - In your bio you said that you turned to writing to deal with stressful situations in your life. How does writing help you deal with your stress?

RW - Ever since I was a kid I’ve always retreated into my head to get away from stress. I found a magical world there where I could fly and was somehow old enough to be Jordan Knight’s girlfriend. Finding writing was like finding out Santa is real and he thinks your swell. Now I can share my fantasy worlds with other people and they seem to be into that.

PC - When you start writing a story, do you have a certain type of reader in mind or do you focus on writing what you would like to read?

RW - I think about what I would like to read. From there, I focus on the characters and what story makes the most sense for them. The personalities help form the beats that move the stories along.

PC - How difficult was it for you to get your first book published?

RW - Oh that’s a trick question. I was accepted in my first year of querying after twelve rejections. I think that’s pretty fast considering, but I did gain a ton of weight and cry a lot. That was pretty difficult.

PC - Are you currently working on a new project?

RW - I’m working on the first novella in a Sugar Baby themed series. I have no idea how books that will be total.

PC - Where would you like for your writing to be in the next 5 years?

RW - Mom told me it was rude to talk about money. *wink*  I’d love to be writing the kind of stories I want to write.

PC - If you were chosen to write the last great romance novel, what would you write about?

RW - I would write an epic re-imagining of how my grandparents met during the Korean War. I have no idea what actually happened.

PC - What advice can you give to aspiring writers?

RW - Don’t give up. Read, write and then write some more. Watch a lot of different shows and movies. Think about what works in stories for you and what doesn’t. Then write what makes you happy.

PC - Who are your favorite up and coming authors?

RW - Ack! Up and coming is a weird phrase for me. Having been in the trenches I think anyone who finishes writing a book is a damn rock start. Props if you stick with it long enough to get to publication. My favorite authors who are not Nora Roberts include AlishaRai, Colette Moody, Lindsay Evans, Holley Trent and Lena Matthews.

PC - Tell us something about you that your readers don’t know.

RW - I’m a crying. I cry at everything. I cried watching a commercial for John and Kate Plus 8.

PC - What is the last book that you read?

PC - What is the one food that you can’t live without?

RW - Pizza. I could eat pizza all day every day. I love pizza.

PC - Are you scheduled to do any meet and greets any time soon?

RW - Not at the moment. Just came back from all the Cons so I’m back in writing mode until the end of the year.
