Recently I decided to try out a web service called Book Bub.
It's free, you just complete a short survey to tell them what types of books
you like to read etc. and several times a week you will get an email with top
picks for you based upon your likes.
On one of my first emails I received had a title called
Vivian's List, by Haleigh Lovell
Her brother's best friend. A list. A love story.
After ending a horrible, scarring relationship, Vivian
embraces her freedom by making a sexual bucket list. When her brother's best
friend, Liam, finds it, sparks fly and hearts open.
Can Vivian heal one steamy encounter at a time?
The teaser looked pretty good and it was free, so I decided
to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised.
I try not to give up spoilers, but since this book was
originally published in 2013 I'm going to give up at least some of the tapes so
be warned **SPOILER ALERT**
Vivian's List tackles the very non sexy issue of
psychological abuse. The title character, Vivian, is the victim of several years
worth of psychological abuse from a man that claims to lover her. The sad part
is that she really doesn't see where she has been abused, and even makes
excuses for her abuser's behavior. And there ladies and gentleman lies the
truth of it. The author, Haleigh Lovell, doesn't shy away from the issue AT
ALL!! Haleigh digs her heels in and looks at the issue right in it's ugly face.
Haleigh allows Vivian to finally find out what it's like to have not only
passionate sex, but to experienced the feeling of being loved and cherished by
her leading man Liam.
Liam's List tackles the issue of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. Liam is a member of the armed forces and is stationed in Iraq. He's
continuously plagued by the fear that if he survives his tour of duty, that his
humanity will be compromised if not completely lost in the process.
Both of these books are wonderful reads. I applaud Haleigh
Lovell for taking issues that can be difficult to marry with the erotic romance
genre. It is evident in Haleigh's writing that she did her home work, and I
applaud her for that.
4 out of 5 stars for Vivian's List and Liam's List
